Joy Williams was described by friends as a “bright and caring girl,” who was battling self esteem issues. The 24-year-old Londoner, originally from Lagos, Nigeria, died from complications after butt enhancement surgery in Bangkok. Sompob Sansiri, the unlicensed doctor who performed the surgery, was charged Saturday (Oct. 25) with negligence in Williams’ death. Williams paid £2,000 ($3, 217.70) for the surgery. She came back to have the silicone implants removed a couple days after the procedure. She died during the second procedure. Williams had been “bullied over her appearance,” according to a friend. She had also undergone surgery on her nose and face. “She was fine the way she was but she just wasn’t happy,” a friend said. “She had no self esteem and I guess she felt she needed to do it.
