The government warned that anybody caught   discriminating against the PLWA in the areas of employment, medical treatment, hiring, assignment, promotion, demotion, transfer, retirement, among others, would face the law.

32-year-old man Impregnate 14-year-old Girl In Jigawa

The Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Sunday said it had arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly impregnating a minor. The State Commandant of the corps, Mr Muhammad Gidado, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the suspect, a resident of Kanti Quarters in Katoge village, was arrested in Kazaure Local Government Area.

Cooks poison family soup, land couple in hospital

Two cooks, who are nationals of the Benin Republic, Victor Hounkpe and David Amusu, have been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly poisoning their employers’ meal in the Lekki area of the state.  Mr. Nwogu Chinaka, and his wife, Omowunmi ─ were taken to a hospital outside the country after eating the poisoned meal.

A prosecutor of the Kwara State Police Command, Mr. Matthew Ologbon, has informed an Ilorin Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Mr. K.A.Yahyah, that a female National Youth Service Corps member, Miss Yetunde Idowu was raped to death by a 51-year-old man, Abdullahi Tanko, and his gang members.

Nigerian bags 25 years imprisonment for drug dealing in South Africa

A Nigerian has been jailed 25-years for drug dealing and racketeering by South Africa’s Durban High Court. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said John Jekwe Chigbu was sentenced after being found guilty of running the drug dealing enterprise from the Durban panel beating business of which he was a co-owner.

Three men, who trekked to Yola in honour of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, are now stranded in Yola. The men, Salihu Jibrin, Aliyu Adamu and Abubakar Suleiman, who spoke to newsmen on Saturday in Yola, said since their arrival, they have been unable to see their mentor, Atiku. They said all they needed was to see Atiku or his representatives to deliver their messages and go back to their various destinations.

A disgraced doctor who moonlighted while on sick leave has been ordered to pay back the £100,000 he earned to the NHS - or face being jailed. Gynaecologist Dr Anthony Madu, 45, secretly carried out well-paid locum work at hospitals while receiving sick pay from another. The specialist registrar from Woolwich, south London, was convicted of six charges of fraud by working at hospitals in England while employed at the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

Motorcyclist lures, rapes primary six pupil for six months

The police have arrested a 38-year-old motorcyclist, Obinna Ekusaba, for allegedly raping a primary six pupil for six months in the Kirikiri area of Lagos State. The incident happened from December, 2014, to May, 2015, on Karimu Street, Kirikiri Town. It learnt that the victim’s mother sold cigarette and alcoholic drinks in a motor park on the street. Ekusaba, who usually parked his motorcycle at the park, was said to be one of her numerous customers.

El-Rufai bans fertiliser allocation to monarchs, politicians

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Saturday banned the allocation of fertilizers to traditional rulers, politicians and other elites across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state. El-Rufai also directed that fertilizer stocks should be sold directly to local farmers from designated sales points across the state with immediate effect.

N275.5m Fraud: ICPC quizzes PSC chair Okiro

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) yesterday quizzed the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Sir Mike Okiro, for over six hours over alleged mismanagement of N275, 525,000 million to train staff of the PSC to monitor the conduct of policemen during the general elections. Okiro, who was interrogated with five others between 9.51am and 4.10pm, was not detained, but granted an administrative bail.

A Greek court has been branded 'racist' after 35 Bangladeshi strawberry pickers who were shot by their employers when they asked to be paid for their work were fined €12,000. The impoverished migrants have each been ordered to pay €360 after they requested a judge they deemed to be biased against them was replaced during the trial in the city of Patras.

Man sells 2-year-old son for N450,000

A 29-year-old man, Kanayo Awurum, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly selling his son for N450,000 in the Egbe, Ikotun area of the state. It was gathered that Kanayo, from the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, allegedly sold the two-year-old boy, identified as Samuel, to some middle-aged women.

Gang steals cars by causing accident

A suspected member of a car-snatching gang, Sunday Ozor, has said the gang’s mode of operation was to cause a minor accident so that the proposed victim would stop. The 39-year-old from Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State added that when their victim came down to inspect the extent of damage, the gang member would swoop on him and snatch the vehicle.

The police in Lagos have arrested a 35-year-old businessman, Arinze Nnachi, for allegedly robbing a sex worker, Patience Sunday. The incident happened at a hotel on Borno Way, Ebute Meta, Lagos State. It was gathered that Nnachi met Sunday at a hotel on May 19, and agreed to pay her N5,500 for a night.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said it ha​s​ arrested two women attempting to smuggle cocaine aboard a Qatar Airways flight to China. Deborah Alaka and Chinyere Chukwujekwu were found to possess about 3 kilogrammes of cocaine at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.

Cholera outbreak in Jos, 4 hospitalized

There has been an outbreak of cholera in Jos, the Plateau State capital. A medical doctor, Yakubu Izang, said some of his patients were diagnosed with cholera on Monday. Mr. Izang, a medical staff of the Kauna clinic in Tudunwa area in Jos north Local Government Area, said some people including children were taken to the clinic for vomiting and stooling.

Dismissed Army officer arrested for robbery, impersonation

Police in Lagos have arrested a member of a suspected robbery gang that usually wore military camouflage while robbing unsuspecting private and commercial vehicles trapped in traffic around Mile 2, Festac, Alakija and its environs. Police sources said it was discovered that the suspect was a dismissed soldier. He was said to have been dismissed from the Nigerian Army over unethical conduct.

The Nigeria U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, were beaten 4-2 by their Brazilian counterparts  in their first match of the ongoing FIFA U-20 tournament in New Zealand played early Monday morning. The African Champions started quite poorly against the South Americans and they were already behind four minutes into the game as Gabriel Jesus profited from poor defending in the Nigeria back-line to put Brazil in the lead.

Richard Utubor, the 35-year-old man arrested by the Lagos police after a lady he picked up from the road died in his apartment, has said he would never assist people again. Utubor, an indigene of Igueben, Edo State, was arrested in the Baruwa Estate, Ipaja area of Lagos State, on Saturday after taking the victim home on Friday.

Pregnant woman, 49 others die in Onitsha tanker fire

Tragedy struck at the Upper Iweka Roundabout in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State, on Sunday when a fuel tanker rammed into a building and caused an inferno. It was gathered that no fewer than 50 persons, including a pregnant woman and some children, were burnt by   the fire, which also consumed about 15 buses.
