Cholera outbreak in Jos, 4 hospitalized
There has been an outbreak of cholera in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
A medical doctor, Yakubu Izang, said some of his patients were diagnosed with cholera on Monday.
Mr. Izang, a medical staff of the Kauna clinic in Tudunwa area in Jos north Local Government Area, said some people including children were taken to the clinic for vomiting and stooling.
One of the victim’s guardians, Mose Gbande, told PREMIUM TIMES that three days ago, his ward was constantly vomiting and stooling and that the situation deteriorated Sunday night.
The victim, Daniel Gbande, is one of those admitted at the Kauna clinic, and has been diagnosed with cholera.
“My illness started last Friday shortly after I took a plate of beans portage. I began to vomit and was passing out stool frequently, and what came to my mind was perhaps, it was food poisoning, I then rushed to a chemist and got medications for stooling, but it persisted, then I had to rush to Ande clinic in Jenta Adamu area, but I was not satisfied with the attention given me.
“This is the second clinic I am visiting and the doctor diagnosed me and said it is Cholera. He immediately placed me on drip since morning,” he said.
There are three other victims being hospitalized at the Kauna clinic. It was gathered that many others were referred to other clinics because the facilities at the Kauna clinic were being overstretched.
There has been no known recorded death.
