Kwara to audit civil servants’ certificates

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has said the state government will authenticate academic certificates of the state civil servants. He also said the planned audit of workers in the state would assist in stamping out certificate racketeering. The governor spoke during a meeting with heads and bursars of the state-owned tertiary institutions on Tuesday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. He also said no form of blackmail and misinformation would deter his administration from implementing measures that would boost the Internally Generated Revenue of the state.

TV reporter and cameraman shot dead during live broadcast

A reporter and a cameraman have been killed after a gunman opened fire during a live TV broadcast in the US state of Virginia. Reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, who worked for US TV network WDBJ7, were interviewing a guest at a shopping centre in Moneta when they were shot on Wednesday morning.

Breaking News: Gunman opened fire in northern France  killing 3, including a six-month old child

A gunman has reportedly shot dead three people and injured several others at a Roma camp in Roye, northern France. A man, a woman and a six-month old child were reportedly killed in the deadly attack, which started at 4:30pm local time. The gunman was eventually arrested after he was seriously injured in a firefight with the police. Two police officers and a child were also wounded by the lone shooter at the traveller camp. It is unclear what motivated the attack in the northern town of Roye, situated around 110 kilometres north of Paris.

Wife catches pastor having sex with church member

A 42-year-old woman, Mrs. Doris Oseni, has told a Customary Court in Ondo town, Ondo State, that she caught her husband of 12 years, Prophet Femi Oseni, on the floor of the church office, having sex with another woman. The woman, who is also an evangelist in the church, therefore asked the court for the dissolution of their marriage on the grounds of adultery, desertion and lack of love on the part of the husband. The plaintiff said her husband’s behaviour towards her changed after seven years of their marriage with no child, adding that the defendant had been sleeping around with different women, most of whom were their church members.

Police used charm to arrest me ─ Suspect

A robbery suspect, Ahmed Rewanu, aka Alagbara, has said the police arrested him with charm because he was caught unawares which made it difficult for him to escape. The 27-year-old was among four suspects arrested by the Rader Squad of the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba. PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects ─ Rewanu, Rahmon Alao, Mufu Akanni, aka Olosa Oko and Lukman Suleiman, aka Stubborn ─ were among the suspected robbers wreaking havoc in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos State.

Teenagers attack shops, stab three to death

There was panic on Freeman and Borno streets in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State when teenagers, armed with cutlasses and knives, attacked and looted shops, while some traders were injured in the area. The teenagers, on the fateful day ─ Saturday ─ went to Old Apapa Road, Oyingbo, and stabbed three persons to death.

His anger was said to have been that Sandra, who was an optician with Madonna University, had called off their relationship, when she learnt that   he was a kidnapper.       Sandra’s twin sister, Katherine who sustained a bullet would during the attack had told vanguard in 2013 that the assailant was   familiar with everyone in their family but nobody knew he was a kidnapper . She explained that her late sister used to visit Henry at his base in Delta State and in one of such visits, some heavily armed men stormed Henry’s apartment, manhandling Sandra in the process.

Roddy Piper, a prominent figure in the world of professional wrestling has passed away. The 61-year-old wrestler, who was born Roderick George Toombs died from natural causes at his home in Hollywood. The WWE Hall of Fame wrestler was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphomain 2006, but was reportedly cancer free last November.
