Brigade Commander Escapes Death Sentence At General Court Martial
Col Victor Ebhaleme the brigade commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola, Adamawa State, heaved a sigh of relief as their bread winner has been reportedly discharged and acquitted by a general court martial in Lagos.
Ebhaleme, who was accused of negligence of duty of releasing weapons approved for units under his brigade in the on-going war against terrorism in the Northeast, was discharged and acquitted by Major General S.D. Aliyu.
According to the prosecutor, the Bridage Commander’s offence was a violation of section 62b of the Armed Forces Act.
The colonel was arraigned alongside 21 other officers including a Brigadier-General, J.O Komolafe, on January 19.
What favoured him was that the panel that investigated him and others found him innocent of the alleged offence and recommended his freedom.
This led to the no case submission by his lawyer, Femi Oyebanji, a retired Major, from the Femi Falana chambers and the General Court Martial, sitting at the 9 Brigade Officers’ Mess agreed and acquitted him of the charge.
