Manchester United Confirm Signing of Athletic Bilbao Midfielder Ander Herrer

Manchester United confirmed the signing of Atletic Bilbo midfielder Ander Herrera. Ander Herrera had to buy out his contract at San Mames to facilitate his movement to to the Manchester based club. "Manchester United is delighted to announce that, after triggering the buy-out clause in his contract on Tuesday, it has signed Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera from Atheltic Club in Bilbao, pending the receipt of the International Transfer Certificate. "He joins on a four-year-contract, with the option to extend for a further year." United had seen a previous bid for the 24-year-old rejected, but Athletic announced on Thursday afternoon that Herrera had subsequently paid the €36m fee himself, paving the way for a move to Old Trafford - having passed a medical at the club's Carrington base on Wednesday. The club will reimburse Herrera for his troubles, in the same way that Bayern Munich did with Javi Martinez's transfer from San Mames two years ago and Herrera expressed his delight at the move.
