Senate begins probe of Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, others over power funds mismanagement

THE  Senate will today  begin an inquest into alleged mismanagement of funds appropriated to the power sector from the Olusegun Obasanjo civilian administration to date. In a statement, yesterday, by the Clerk of Senate ad hoc Committee on Power, Cletus Ojabo, the power sector probe will be in the form of investigative hearing/interactive session, just as there was an indication that former ministers of power will also be in attendance.

The Nigeria Immigration Service has revoked the passports of all former governors and ministers issued to them during their tenure. The Comptroller-General of the Immigration Service, Martin Abeshi, said this in a statement on Monday, The Cable reports.

NAFDAC confiscates fake drugs worth N4 million in Jigawa

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in Jigawa State on Sunday said it confiscated fake and unregistered drugs worth N4 million in the last two years. The NAFDAC State Coordinator, Olaniran Olakunle, disclosed this in Dutse while presenting to journalists some suspects allegedly arrested with fake drugs in Gwaram and Malammadori Local Government areas.

A 70 year old man might have cheated death when he bounced back to life after spending over 30 hours in a mortuary in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.  Doctors at a private hospital in the town had on Saturday, August 26, 2015, certified Amos Otene dead at 4. 30 am and   promptly covered him up and wheeled him into the mortuary, awaiting instructions from members of the family for embarment. As further proof that Otene was dead, the doctors extracted the requisite body fluid and other substances from the corpse, for post mortem examination which was to ultimately reveal the cause of death. According to the family, the hospital admitted Otene on Friday August 25 after he complained of severe toothache which had persisted for several days. As the news of Otene’s death spread, family members and other sympathisers continued to throng the hospital. Housemaid stabs boyfriend, says he deserved to die

A housemaid, Blessing Edeh, has stabbed her boyfriend, Edet Ebong, to death in the Lekki area of Lagos State. The 24-year-old Uyo, Akwa Ibom State indigene, said Ebong died because he was jealous and suspicious of her, adding that she felt no remorse since it was “a case of two fighting”. Edeh and Ebong had been dating for one year and six months.

Cult members bury man alive in Lagos

A war is brewing in the Mushin area of Lagos State after some suspected cultists dragged a motorist out of a commercial bus and buried him alive. The yet-to-be-identified victim was on his way to the Oyingbo area of the state. He was said to have been dragged out of the bus at the Total bus stop in the Mushin end of the Ikorodu Road.

Buhari, Osinbajo disclose assets

The presidency has released the statement below giving details of the assets of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, as declared to the Code of Conduct Bureau. The statement reads: “Documents submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), show that the retired General has indeed been living an austere and Spartan lifestyle, contrary to what many might expect of a former Head of State of Nigeria and one who has held a number of top government positions, such as governor, Minister of petroleum and the head of the Petroleum Development Trust Fund (PTDF).

Hajj: Saudi Govt To Execute Any Pilgrim Caught With Drugs –

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has written a strongly worded letter to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, on the need to educate its pilgrims on why they should not be caught with hard drugs in the Holy Land, warning that any pilgrim caught would be executed.

Three killed, houses razed in Ogun cult clash

Three suspected members of rival cult groups were reportedly slaughtered in the Elega and Ago-Odo areas of Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Ogun State after the groups clashed on Monday. The cults groups were identified as the Aiye and Eiye confraternities. One of the victims, Ibrahim Alamutu, was said to be the leader of the Eiye Confraternity. It was gathered that Alamutu, aka, Emir, had his wedding introduction on Sunday. He was slaughtered around Elega Roundabout.

Man jailed for setting pregnant lover ablaze Benin

An Egor Magistrates’ Court in Benin, Edo State, on Monday sentenced one Lucky Esonahae to five years imprisonment for setting his pregnant lover ablaze. The 37-year-old bar operator was arraigned on one count bordering on causing bodily harm. The charge read, “That you, Lucky Esonahae, on July 6, 2015, at Uwelu Quartres, Benin, in the Egor Magisterial District, did cause grievous harm to one Stella Isaac, by setting her on fire with kerosene, which cause her bodily harm and, thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 355(B) of the Criminal Code Cap 48, Vol. II, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, as applicable to Edo State.”

Buhari should invite looters for talks —Okogie

Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari, to invite suspected looters of the country’s treasury for talks. He said the President’s efforts to retrieve looted funds would be made easier if looters were allowed to return their loot without castigating them publicly. Okogie, in an interview with our correspondent, said it was also cheaper to recover loot through dialogue than charging suspected public fund thieves to court.

Masquerades invade church, flog pastors, church members

FOUR masquerades, on Sunday, invaded Christ Apostolic Church in Epinmi Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, disrupted the service and flogged officiating pastors and some members of the church. The masquerades, who were earlier prevented from entering the church by the workers, forced their way in and headed towards the officiating pastor, beating him and other pastors. The invasion disrupted the service, as members of the church, who were caught unawares, left their bibles and other belongings and ran out of the church.
