BREAKING NEWS: Adamawa Governorship Election: PDP disqualifies Acting Gov. Fintiri

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has disqualified the Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, from contesting the state’s October 11 governorship election as its candidate. The PDP said Mr. Fintiri, who took over as acting governor after the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako in July, is ineligible to participate in the party’s September 6 primaries. The Chairman of the party’s screening panel, Ibrahim Mantu, who briefed reporters at the end of a screening Saturday, said Mr. Fintiri was disqualified on “moral grounds”. Mr. Mantu spoke at the national secretariat of the PDP in Abuja. Acting Governor Fintiri has faced mounting criticisms over his decision to contest the election to replace Mr. Nyako, whose removal he spearheaded. Other PDP candidates for the poll have accused him of staging a “coup” and lacking the moral right to contest. Military seize power on lesotho

 A military coup took place in Lesotho Saturday, the country's Prime Minister, Thomas Thabane, said in an interview aired by South African broadcaster eNCA. The Lesotho government is seeking the assistance of the South African government and other neighboring states, Thabane said. The Prime Minister said that since the Lesotho military was looking for him, he decided "to get out of the way," and fled to an unknown location. "In my political life, it was not the first time that I saw this kind of activity by the Lesotho army," Thabane said. A lot of effort has been made to reform the military and to "make it a normal army that is subject to the civilian authority," according to Thabane. (CNN)

According to the  Minister of Health and Social Action, Awa Marie Cole Seck, a Guinean infected with Ebola virus has been quarantined an Hospital in Dakar.This 21 year old student at the University in Conakry (Guinea) was reported on August 27 by Guinean officials who had lost track of them, to Senegalese health authorities' said Mrs. Seck during a press conference.

Man commits suicide after losing money to ex-lover

ABEOKUTA— A middle-aged man, Samsideen Akinwunmi, has reportedly committed suicide in Abeokuta after being duped by his concubine. (AFP) - A Malaysia Airlines plane was forced to turn back due to pressure problems inside the aircraft after being in the air for almost an hour, a top aviation watchdog official said Sunday. Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, director-general of the Department of Civil Aviation told AFP that the plane returned to Kuala Lumpur International Airport because it was unable to maintain the correct pressure inside the aircraft. "It was not able to maintain the right pressure differential for the comfort of the passengers. It is not a major problem," he said. Malaysia Airlines officials could not be reached for comment. Meanwhile the Star Online reported that the Tokyo-bound flight was 50 minutes into its journey when it was forced to return to Kuala Lumpur after taking off at 0250 GMT. Passengers were subsequently transferred to another plane which departed at 0515 GMT, it said. The flag carrier, which prior to this year had a good safety record, has been in the spotlight ...

A chef preparing a dish made from cobra flesh died after the snake bit his hand - 20 minutes after he had severed it from its body. Peng Fan from Foshan, Guangdong province, southern China, had been preparing a special dish made from Indochinese spitting cobra, a rare delicacy. It was as he went to chuck the cobra's head in the bin that it bit him, injecting Mr Peng with its flesh-killing, neurotoxic venom. The snake was being diced up to be made into snake soup, which is a delicacy in Guangdong and a much sought after dish in the province's high-end restaurants. Dailymail

Breaking news : 38 killed in Egypt tourist bus crash

At least 38 people were killed and 41 injured early Friday when two tourist buses crashed in northeastern Egypt, the country's semi-official news website Al-Ahram Online reported. The two buses in the governorate of South Sinai were carrying an estimated 80 passengers, including 4 foreign tourists, the report said.
